WHO:
Following the recent terrorist attacks on America, Senator Reid has made it a priority to back smart investments in critical transportation sectors, from transit and rail improvements to bridge and highway projects as part of an economic stimulus package that is now taking shape in Congress. The U.S. Conference of Mayors supports Sen. Reid's plan for a multi-billion dollar commitment to stimulate the economy through increased strategic investment in transportation and other infrastructure projects.
Included in Reid's package is $5 billion for investment in highways and bridges, $5 billion for investment in transit systems, and $16.2 billion in investment in the nation's rail systems, including enactment of the "High Speed Rail Investment Act." Conference President and New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial sent a letter to every member of Congress expressing support for Sen. Reid's package.
