Description of Event: The JOB-READY-HIRE provides training, and connects qualified young adults to employers looking for talent. Through an initiative funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, in partnership with the City of Albuquerque, Youth Development, Inc. NM Workforce Connection, and produced in partnership with the US Conference of Mayor’s Play Ball initiative, candidates are assessed for job readiness skills, complete training in customer service, and build valuable skills for a rapidly changing work environment.

Description of Event: The City of Cerritos proudly supports the Play Ball initiative launched by Major League Baseball and the United States Conference of Mayors. On Monday, June 13, as part of the City's Youth Baseball/T-ball League awards night, a special event will be conducted in conjunction with the Play Ball initiative. Play Ball Cerritos - Baseball Skills Stations will offer youth participants a unique skills exhibition experience. Players and their family members will participate in various pitching and hitting contests designed to be both challenging and fun. As a way to commemorate the day, participants will receive a special gift after visiting each of the four skills stations. The City of Cerritos hopes to grow participation in baseball by partnering with Major League Baseball and providing programs such as Play Ball Cerritos Baseball Skills Stations.

Description of Event: As a precursor to the City's annual Inner City Youth Tournament, the City will hold a special ceremony in which former Mayor Daniel Brown and former minor league baseball player and City Councilman Joe Bailey will introduce Graig Nettles, Major League Baseball legend. Mr. Nettles will speak to the children in the opening ceremony and then hang around for pictures and autographs.

Description of Event: We will set up four stations that will be manned by the University School Varsity Baseball Team. Each station the players will teach the young athletes how to run the bases, field ground balls and pop-ups, throwing mechanics and batting techniques. The players will rotate to different stations every 15 minutes. We had a very successful event last year and hope to grow the event this year.
