CITY
OF ATLANTA, GA Mayor Bill
Campbell
Mayor and First Lady
Promote Awareness through National and Community Organizations
Under
the leadership of Mayor
Bill Campbell, the city has worked as an active partner with numerous
health, women. s, and non-profit organizations in educating the
community at large about breast cancer awareness education and early
detection. First Lady Sharon Campbell has joined the mayor in campaigning
against this disease.
Support for Awareness Includes Fund-Raising
Mrs. Campbell is active in
support of foundations and agencies that are committed to winning the
fight against breast cancer. She has assumed many leadership roles with
organizations that raise breast cancer awareness and research funds,
including:
- being present at the
unveiling of the official breast cancer awareness postal stamp,
sponsored by the United States Postal Service;
- serving as co-chair
with Shirley Miller, wife of Governor Zell Miller, for the Buddy Check 2
program, sponsored by WSB-TV/Channel 2;
- participating in the
Dark & Lovely Celebrating Life Breast Cancer Awareness Health Fair,
sponsored by Carson Products Company; and
- participating in the
Pink Ribbons Fashion Show and Luncheon, which supports the Georgia
Breast Cancer Coalition Fund.
The
Mayor and First Lady were
also co-hosts in a ceremonial lighting of the South Trust Building to raise
awareness of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and its annual
Race for The Cure. Furthermore, in October of each year, the mayor.
s office staff raises funds for this foundation by purchasing its
pink ribbon pins and wearing them on a special day of
observance.
The Campbell
Administration will continue to take leadership roles and partner with
organizations to raise awareness among the people of Atlanta, all the
while hoping - - as others do - - eventually to find a cure.
