METRO BUSES, SCHOOLS, AND POLICE

1. Briefly describe the structure of your program.

The goal of the program is to reduce the number of student related incidents in and around the downtown bus stops and on bus routes to and from school.

2. When was the program created and why?

Akron Police and the Board of Education will attempt to embark on a program this school year 1998-99, to reduce the number of incidents involving students on the Metro buses and at the bus stops.

3. How do you measure the programís effectiveness?

The program will be measured by analyzing data using the most advanced technological systems available, develop a response based on the outcome of the analysis, and evaluate the response to the problem.

4. How is the program financed?

The program has applied for a grant to finance the project.

5. How is the community involved in the program, if at all?

The community involvement will consist of a partnership between the Police Department, the Board of Education, PTA, organized student committees, and the Metro bus line.
