Alexandria (VA) Mayor Kerry J. Donley and his community are basking in the sunshine of a new movie, Remember the Titans. Starring Denzel Washington, the film documents the championship 1971 T.C. Williams football team during the city's first year of integration. Mayor Donley attended the opening premiere in the District of Columbia across the Potomac River with President Clinton and Alexandria School Board members on September 26.

The New Jersey Conference of Mayors in a recent article speculates that the state"s next Governor, succeeding Christine Todd Whitman, may be a mayor.

Woodbridge Mayor James McGreevey will seek the Democratic nomination next June He ran against Republican Governor Whitman four years ago and lost by one percent. Jersey City Mayor Bret Schundler has announced he will run in the GOP primary. They are both 42.

Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan celebrated the opening of the new Tom Bradley Youth and Family Center on September 30. "This is a fitting tribute to the giving spirit of the late Mayor Tom Bradley," Riordan said about the center which will offer comprehensive information, referral, literacy, ESL and youth employment services. Mayor Bradley — who served as Mayor of Los Angeles for 20 years and was a Conference of Mayors Board Member — passed away in 1998.

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino has been named to serve on the Steering Committee of a national Initiative to Eliminate Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities. The invitation, from the Department of Health and Human Services and the American Public Health Association, is designed for Mayor Menino and other national leaders to develop a plan to reduce health disparities by the year 2010.

Mayor Menino has addressed many health issues in Boston including programs in child immunizations, pre-natal programs and steps to reduce disparities in breast and cervical cancer.
