Mayor A. Ralph Mollis of North Providence, joined by Sen. Jack Reed (RI), held a press conference on June 25 in support of the COPS Program, urging the United States Senate to reject its proposed elimination.

Mayor Mollis said, "The results speak for themselves... As our nation’s crime rate has dropped to it’s lowest level in a quarter century, our Town’s crime rate has dramatically decreased year after year for the past three years."

"As an active member of the United States Conference of Mayors and as Mayor of a community which has benefited from these programs, I stand committed to support and join in the efforts to save the COPS Program," Mollis concluded.
