| Mayor Cianci Reports on Business
Council Activities By Sharon Oxley On June 12, during the 67th Annual Conference of Mayors, Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci, Jr, Chairman of the Mayors and the Business Community Task Force reported on the progress of the Business Council. "I am very pleased to report that the Business Council continues to grow. This time last year we had 35 member companies and we now have a membership of 57.î Mayor Cianci went on to welcome the following new members: Air Transport Association, American Management Services, Arthur Andersen, National Association of Home Builders, British Airways, Camp Dresser & McKee, Discovery Communications, Edelman Public Relations, Lehman Brothers, Monsanto and 3Com. Mayor Cianci also announced that Denver Mayor Wellington Webb, Vice President, the Business Council will host the Business Council and the Leadership of the Conference of Mayors for the Mayors and Business Leaders Summit September 22 and 23 just prior to the Fall leadership meeting. "We are working closely with Business Council members in devising an agenda that will optimize interaction between the mayors and Business council members and address issues mutual to both the public and private sectors," said Cianci. The release of the Public/Private Partnership Award application and the Mayors Business Council Directory were also announced. "These awards honor partnerships between cities and Business Council members that have improved the quality of life in a community. I encourage you all to enter."
