Labor Secretary Alexis Herman has hired Mona Ghazala Mohib to serve as her new Director of Intergovernmental Affairs.

Mohib has worked in the White House Office Intergovernmental Affairs since June of 1997, first serving as a Special Assistant and then Associate Director since March of 1999.

In her White House position, Mohib served as a lead representative to The U.S. Conference of Mayors and its members, as well as county officials.

As stated in a letter by the Officers of the Conference and Executive Director J. Thomas Cochran, "working on behalf of President Clinton, you have been more than just an able spokesperson for the Administration. You have been our advocate and an integral link in the partnership between the nation’s mayors and the federal government."

Mohib is a native of Stamford, Connecticut, and Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy recently issued an official proclamation declaring "Mona Mohib Day" in honor of her work on behalf of mayors and their cities.

Mohib, who will begin work at Labor in June, will replace Steve Heyman who has been appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the Labor Department.
