| Minimum Wage Increase By Joan Crigger A debate about whether or not to increase the current minimum wage in about to occur on Capitol Hill. Although no legislation has been introduced at this time, there is much commotion going on behind closed doors. The proposal now under discussion would increase wages in two increments of fifty cents each. The first increase would be effective September 1, 1999 and would raise the minimum wage to $5.65 per hour. The second increase would take place on September 1, 2000 and increase wages to $6.15 an hour. Current minimum wage is $5.15 per hour.
