Conference President Webb Attends National Arts Awards Gala in New York

One of the attendees at the National Arts Awards Gala held April 17 in New York City was Conference President Denver Mayor Wellington E. Webb. Sponsored by the Americans for the Arts, this annual awards dinner honors individuals who have worked in and for the arts and have helped to create an awareness of what the arts can do. The honorees included: Peter Bijur, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Texaco, Inc.; the world renown architect Frank Gehry; Thomas Krens, Director of the Guggenheim Museum; Jo Carole Launder, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Art and Preservation in Embassies; the award-winning actress Uma Thurman; and the Pulitzer prize and Tony award winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein. Award presenters included: First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, National Endowment for the Arts Chairman William Ivey, and Tina Brown, Chairman of Miramax’s Talk Media and Editor of Talk Magazine.
