Eighth Annual Recycling At Work Awards

The 2001 Recycling At Work Awards, with US Representative Sam Farr (CA) as the master of ceremonies and over 100 recycling and solid waste professionals in attendance, honored the outstanding recycling programs of companies, organizations, universities, and government entities whose environmental leadership continue to make recycling successful.

Recipients of the top two awards were rewarded with a total of $10,000 to donate to the environmental organizations of their choice. Dell Computer Corporation and the Naval Undersea Warfare Division, Newport were recipients of the DMA/Robert Rodale Recycler of the Year Award. This Award is given to the organization that exhibits outstanding recycling and buy recycled activities. Norm Thompson Outfitters, Inc. was honored with the DMA/Robert Rodale Environmental Mailer of the Year Award for their sustainable business practices in the direct mail industry.

Other Recycling At Work honorees were recognized for their outstanding programs and achievements in the following categories:

  • Clean Your Files Day: Jackson County, MO
  • Buy Recycled: Massachusetts Operational Services, Division - EPP Program
  • Buy Recycled: Honorable Mention - IDOA Greening the Government
  • Closed Loop: Collins & Aikman Floorcoverings
  • Public Education: Saint Paul Neighborhood Energy Consortium
  • Public Education: The City of San Diego
  • Employee Education and Outreach: Southern California Edison
  • Environmental Responsibility: Bear Creek Corporation
  • Environmental Responsibility: Honorable Mention - John Deere Credit
  • Commercial Recycling Program: Unified Governments of Athens-Clarke County

The Recycling At Work Campaign is a non-profit partnership managed under the auspices of the US Conference of Mayors. The Recycling At Work Principal Benefactors are: The Direct Marketing Association, Georgia Pacific Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company, Waste Management, Inc., and Weyerhaeuser Company. The primary emphasis of this unique public/private partnership is to increase recycling in the workplace.
