Municipal Waste Management
Association Announces Annual Meeting The Municipal Waste
Management Association (MWMA), an affiliate of the United States
Conference of Mayors, is pleased to announce its upcoming Annual
Meeting, to be held at the Westin Grand Hotel in Washington, DC, on
March 13-15, 2000. The MWMA Annual Meeting is
an opportunity for city staff, including environmental commissioners,
sanitation commissioners, solid waste and public works directors from
across the nation, to meet and discuss the leading environmental and
solid waste issues facing America’s urban areas. In past years, our
Annual Meeting has seen participation from more than 50 cities,
including New York, Chicago, Houston, San Diego, Denver, Philadelphia,
Los Angeles, and many others. The MWMA Annual Meeting
will address issues such as illegal dumping, environmental justice,
clean air regulatory impacts, electric deregulation, alternative fuels
for solid waste fleets, shared responsibility for waste reduction and
OSHA’s ergonomics proposal. This will provide an excellent
opportunity for the environmental commissioner and solid waste
director from your city to share in the exchange of best practices and
to engage in the development of new environmental policies for
consideration next year in Seattle at the 2000 annual U.S. Conference
of Mayors meeting. Mayors are encouraged to
send representatives from their cities to attend this meeting. To
request a copy of the agenda or obtain registration information,
please contact Jennifer DeLong, Program Manager, at (202) 861-6776, or
