Detroit Mayor Dennis W. Archer rolled out the red carpet for The United States Conference of Mayors 69th Annual Meeting being held on June 22-26, 2001 in Detroit. Mayor Archer presented a video overview at the Conference of Mayors Annual Winter Meeting illustrating the new energy and vibrancy occurring in Detroit. Under Mayor Archer's leadership and vision the City has been on a path of renewal facing the future after post-industrial America. In the process Mayor Archer's Administration has strived to remake Detroit into a premier City placing emphasis on quality of life issues affecting citizens.

The Conference Annual Meeting will coincide with the City of Detroit's 300th Year Anniversary. Mayor Archer has planned a cultural stroll, which will allow meeting participants to experience Detroit's earlier years. This stroll will include gourmet dining, visiting Detroit's Historical Museum, the new Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History and the national's fifth largest fine arts museum the Detroit Institute of Arts. Participants will also relive Detroit's automotive past at the Henry Ford Museum in Greenfield Village in Dearborn. In addition to enjoying a host of other amenities from major league baseball, restaurants, cafes and even the excitement of three brand new casinos, another attraction will be the celebration of Detroit as Motown's birthplace with a special concert in the beautifully restored Fox Theatre featuring the Four Tops along with others. So "Get Ready" because here Detroit comes!
