Rockford Mayor Charles Box Honored for Outstanding Service

During the luncheon of the 69th Winter Meeting of the Conference of Mayors, Rockford Mayor Charles Box, was honored for twelve years of exemplary service. Mayor Box, who has chosen not to seek reelection this coming April, was elected to the Conference of Mayors Advisory Board in 1992 and became a member of the Board of Trustees in 1994.

In addition to his service as one of the Conference's top officers, Mayor Box held the following positions:

  • Chair of the Community Development Housing Committee;

  • Co-Chair of the Conference of Mayors Liaison Committee to the National Association of Realtors;

  • Co-Chair of the Community Development Block Grant Task Force;

  • Chair of the Subcommittee on Enterprise Zones; and

  • Co-Chair of the 25th Anniversary of the Community Development Block Grant Task Force.

Conference of Mayors President, H. Brent Coles, in presenting Mayor Box with a plaque, said, "today , we honor him not only for his service to his city but to the Conference of Mayors. In the area of providing affordable housing for all Americans and housing and community development in general, he has been a great, a tireless advocate for improving the circumstances of working families. Beyond this, as a Conference leader, Mayor Box has served as a member of many Conference delegations on international trade missions."
