WASHINGTON (January 17, 2002) - As the number of women holding elective office continues to grow, approximately 60 women mayors from across the country will meet with the women of the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. in the U.S. Capitol. The meeting and reception, sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and hosted by Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), is open to the press.

Copies of the recently published book "Nine and Counting," written by women Senators, will be distributed to those Women's Caucus members attending the reception.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are 1,139 such cities in the country today, each represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the Mayor.
