WASHINGTON (January 23, 2002) - Nearly 250 mayors will gather in New York City January 25-26 to discuss reviving the U.S. economy and to show support for the city and its new mayor. The mayors will arrive in New York from the nation's capital via a special Acela Express train Thursday evening.
On Friday, January 25, the meeting will begin, with participation from top business leaders and elected official. Among those speaking are Mayor Bloomberg, former Mayor Giuliani, U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, U.S. Senator John Kerry, Congressman Charles Rangel, Felix Rohatyn and Jonathan Tisch. On Saturday, January 25, the mayors will attend a memorial for the victims of the September 11 attack, visit Ground Zero and hear from former Mayor Giuliani and Senator Clinton.
Press covering any part of the meeting will be required to (1) register, either on site or in advance at http://usmayors.org/70thWinterMeeting/ and (2) show a valid press identification with photograph.
Most events will take place at the New York Hilton Hotel, 6th Avenue and 54th Street. A working press room will not be available.
