![]() For Immediate Release Contact: Tony Iallonardo Mayors to Release Survey of Gun Deaths Since Columbine Tragedy WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following concurrent sessions on gun safety and preventing school violence at USCMs 68th Winter Meeting, Mayors will gather to release a survey of gun deaths since the tragic shootings at Columbine High School last year. The unveiling is scheduled at The Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington, in the foyer of the Presidential Ballroom, and will commence at Noon on Thursday January 27, 2000. Led by Denver Mayor and Conference President Wellington E. Webb, Mayors will repeat their call to Congress to pass gun safety legislation as soon as possible. The event follows concurrent sessions on preventing school violence and gun safety in America running from 10:30 AM to Noon. Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton will moderate the school violence session occurring in Federal Room "B" of the Capital Hilton. A Columbine and Jonesboro shooting victim, and Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan have been invited to participate. Bridgeport Mayor Jospeh P. Ganim and Saint Louis Mayor Clarence Harmon will moderate the gun safety session scheduled in Federal Room "A" of the Capital Hilton. White House Domestic Policy Advisor Bruce Reed, Miami-Dade County Mayor Alexander Penelas, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, and Conference Executive Director J. Thomas Cochran are scheduled to participate. Press is required to register for these events and others during the Conference's 68th Winter Meeting.
