SUBJECT: 3Com will formally present $1 million in grants of networking products and technical services to the mayors of 10 U.S. cities that won the company’s Urban Challenge announced in July 1999 in partnership with The U.S. Conference of Mayors. The 3Com Urban Challenge helps to bridge the national Digital Divide by working directly with US mayors to connect their communities and improve access to educational, health care, and other municipal resources. Through the program, 3Com will donate a total of $1 million in technology products, network design, and consulting services. The program has grown from 3Com’s proven success in urban environments such as Boston and San Jose, Calif. 3Com will also announce that Urban Challenge will extend through the year 2000 to 10 additional U.S. cities for a total of another $1 million. The application deadline for the new round of grants is April 15, 2000, and the winners will be announced in June 2000.
