Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) today issued the following statement
regarding the terrorist attack in Nice, France:

“Once again America’s mayors stand in solidarity with the people of France in the wake of yet another
tragic terrorist attack, this one in Nice on Bastille Day – a day of national pride and celebration. We
are reminded today of the attacks in Paris, Brussels, and Istanbul, and most recently in our own
country in Orlando and San Bernardino.”

“These senseless acts of terrorism must be stopped. Across the globe, national leaders must
redouble their efforts to work together and, in their own countries, to work with mayors, police chiefs
and other community leaders to prevent these horrific incidents from occurring.”

“Again it was brave police officers who were first on the scene and who took down the terrorist and
halted the carnage. It is our local police who are most likely to prevent terrorist incidents from
occurring in the first place and who, with other first responders, are the first on the scene when an
incident occurs.”

“Our condolences and prayers go to Nice Mayor Philippe Pradal, Regional Council President
Christian Estrosi, and all of the victims, their families and loved ones.”
